The Wingspan expansions: Across the continents and to the dragons

Wingspan's boxed set focused on the birds of America, while its expansions take a closer look at the birds of Europe, Oceania and Asia. Each one adds new birds and mechanics, culminating in Asia, a fully compatible stand-alone game. Released in 2019,Wingspan is a collection and combination game in which you play as ornithologists seeking to have the most prestigious collection of birds. Awarded the Kennerpiel des Jahres and the Tric Trac d'Or Expert in the same year, it has established itself as a classic. Published by Stonemaier Games and designed by Elisabeth Hargrave, Wingspan is a game with simple rules but complex strategies, aimed at experienced players.

In Wingspan, each player has to build up the most prestigious ornithological collection by collecting birds and eggs, and completing shared missions and personal objectives.

Each turn, you have four options, allowing you to collect food tokens, eggs or bird cards, or to welcome a bird with a unique power, which will improve one of the collection options for the rest of the game.

As well as its beautiful and instructive bird cards, Wingspan's appeal lies in its engine-building mechanics. The more birds you place on your board, the more complex and interesting your actions will be, allowing you to create formidable combinations.

Wingspan extensions

Following the huge success of Wingspan, extensions have been released to take the game mechanics even further, each introducing new mechanics and birds from a new continent.

The Asia expansion is special because, as well as introducing two extra players, it is also a stand-alone game for two players!

The variants: Wyrmspan and Finspan

In addition to the base game and its expansions, the Wingspan universe has been expanded with two titles that retain the essence of the series. The principle still revolves around building engines and collecting animals, but we're leaving the birds behind.

• Wyrmspan invites you to collect dragons! This game introduces a host of new mechanics that give players more control over the pace of the game. This complexity is accompanied by increased depth, which will appeal to expert players!
• Finspan takes you back to the real world to collect fish! It's freed from the constraints of its predecessors and offers fluid, exciting gameplay. More accessible without losing any of its depth, it's an ideal entry into the Wingspan range!
